Flood resilience for North and Far North Queensland (Stronger Homes Grant)
If you were affected by the 2025 North and Far North Queensland flood event, you may be eligible for a grant to improve your home’s resilience against future flooding.
The Stronger Homes Grant is available for eligible works up to $10,000. Examples of eligible works include raising electrical switchboards and replacing wall lining to be flood resilient.
Applications for the grant are now open.
Who can apply
To be eligible for the grant, you will need to demonstrate certain information about your home:
The building footprint of your home was inundated by the 2025 North and Far North Queensland floods. You will need to submit photographs of the flood damage to your home.
Your home is a residence. This means your home is a house, unit, granny flat, or manufactured home that is not used primarily for business purposes.
You're the homeowner or property owner. You will need to provide a rates notice or register of title.
Your home is in an eligible local government area.
The following local government areas impacted by the North and Far North Queensland Tropical Low are eligible under the joint State-Commonwealth Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA):

Before you apply
Before you submit an application for the grant, you’ll need to have the following information on hand:
photo of your licence (front and back)
photo of your Medicare card
copy of rates notice or certificate of title showing you are the owner
photos of flood damage to your building footprint
photo of the frontage of the home from the street, including the letter box
itemised contractor quote for strategies you are seeking funding for
photos of the damage of each area of the home where you’re seeking to conduct resilience works.

The grant is available to insured and uninsured homeowners. When work is complete, it will be paid as follows:
If you’re uninsured, we will pay the grant directly to your licensed contractor (builder or tradesperson).
If you’re insured, and work is being undertaken as part of a claim, we will pay the grant directly to your insurance company.
If you’re insured and have taken an insurance payout or finalised a claim or have decided to self-manage works, we will pay the grant directly to your licensed contractor (builder or tradesperson).
What the grant can be used for
Grants of up to $10,000 are available for resilient strategies such as:
raising your washing machine and/or dryer by mounting on a wall or flood-resilient stand
raising the electrical switchboard(s) and meter box
raising data and electrical points
raising your hot water system
raising air conditioner condenser units
raising pumps directly connected to your home
separating electrical circuits between levels
replacing floor coverings with flood resilient materials
removing plasterboard wall lining and replace with fibre cement sheet wall lining, with the ability to clean the wall cavity in future
paint stud work to prevent future mould.
All works must be undertaken by a suitably licensed Queensland contractor.
