Applying to have a charity removed
Anyone can lodge an application to request the removal of a charity, which may be on the grounds of:
- the purpose of the organisation not currently being charitable
- the charity not being operated in good faith
- the charity not being properly administered
- an inappropriate person being connected to the charity.
To apply to remove a charity, you must:
- complete and lodge the application to remove a charity (form 4) with us
- send a copy of the form to the organisation within 7 days of submitting it to us (we recommend using registered mail)
- be able to prove to us that you have sent a copy to the organisation, if requested.
After we receive your application, we will assess it and we may contact the charity to invite them to respond. A decision will then be made and we will notify you of the outcome.
