Gift card expiry dates consultation
The Commonwealth Treasury released a consultation regulation impact statement on gift card expiry dates.
This regulatory assessment examined the issue of gift card expiry dates and presented 3 options to reduce consumer detriment. The consultation looked at options including a prohibition on the use of expiry dates and a minimum 3 year expiry period.
In addition to receiving online submissions, the Commonwealth Treasury conducted targeted meetings with key stakeholders to discuss the matters outlined.
How to make a submission
The consultation process was designed to allow interested parties to provide views on options to
improve outcomes and protections for consumers who participate in the gift card market.
Submissions were submitted either online or by mail. You could also leave brief feedback by leaving informal comments in the Commonwealth Treasury’s Consultation Hub.
