Blue cards for education programs conducted outside of school

Only some people will need a blue card under this category. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, check with your employer or contact us.

Employees and volunteers

You will need a blue card if you deliver educational programs to school students who can’t attend regular school, such as students who have been suspended, have special schooling arrangements, or are in an elite education program.

Examples

A blue card is needed if you provide programs under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 in relation to:

  • flexible arrangements (state or non-state school) s182 and 183
  • continuing education during suspension, s 284, 294 and 301
  • continuing education during exclusion of certain student(s) s304 and 310.

A blue card is not needed under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 if you are providing education under the banner of a:

  • school
  • registered higher education provider
  • registered training organisation, for example a university or organisation such as TAFE Queensland.

Business owners and operators

You will need a blue card if your business includes—or is likely to include—providing services under  sections 182, 183, 286 (2) or 304 of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006.

Examples

A blue card is needed for a:

  • business operators that provides educational programs for students who can’t attend regular school. For example suspended or excluded students, or students who have special schooling arrangements.

A blue card is not needed if the business you operate is a:

  • state school
  • non-state school
  • registered higher education provider
  • registered training organisation.
