Transfer to a Queensland second-hand dealer or pawnbroker licence
You must hold a Queensland licence to trade as a second-hand dealer or pawnbroker. However, you can apply to transfer a licence from:
- another Australian state
- New Zealand.
This process is called mutual recognition.
You may continue to work while we process your application. However, you must:
- follow any restrictions set out on your non-Queensland licence
- stop working if the licence expires
- show it to an inspector if they ask to see it.
Complete the form
You must fill out the application form for mutual recognition.
This must include:
- a copy of your current interstate or New Zealand licence
- whether you are a sole trader or partnership (including the details of your partners)
- your contact details, including a residential address
- the address of every place of business you will operate
- the details of persons you will be trading with
- the licence fee
- the criminal history check fee.
Attach your identification
You will need to attach identifying documents. It must be 1 of the following 4 documents:
- Birth certificate or extract
- Driver’s licence
- Citizenship certificate
- Passport
These will need to be:
- original copies if you submit in person
- certified copies if you submit by mail.
You can get a copy of your documents certified by:
- a Justice of the Peace (JP)
- a Commissioner of Declarations (C.dec)
- a notary public.
Submit the application
You may only submit your form:
- in person
- by mail.
If we approve your application, we will put your name and licence details on the public register. Anyone can search the register to check if you are licensed.
