Join an approved security industry association
Your security firm must join an approved industry association to do any work in Queensland. An association helps to look after the security industry’s:
- integrity
- professionalism
- conduct.
This is in addition to your legal requirements.
Membership
Your association will need to:
- offer genuine and accessible services to your firm (such as professional development)
- have a code of conduct in place, which you must follow to remain a member.
Compliance audits
Your association must do a compliance audit of your firm at least once every 3 years to check that you follow their code of conduct. We set a minimum standard for what an association’s code of conduct must cover.
The compliance audit will:
- be conducted by an independent, certified accountant
- follow auditing and assurance standards
- take place in a manner that the association decides.
Fees
Your association may charge you a membership fee. We do not regulate the fee amounts. You will need to decide which association offers you the best deal. Compare the services they each offer to the fees they charge. Ask about this when considering which association to join.
Some associations include the audit fee in your membership. Others will bill you at the time of your audit.
Approved associations
We have approved the following associations to operate in Queensland. Your firm may join the most appropriate association for your needs, as long as they are on this table.

Unlisted associations
If your association is not on this list, they are not an approved association. This does not stop you from joining, but doing so will not satisfy the requirement of your licence to be a member of an approved security industry association.
If you are not an active member of an approved association, this may invalidate your licence. You can’t legally operate without a valid licence.
Please contact your association if you believe they should be on this list.
Changing associations
You can choose to switch to a different industry association. They must be an approved association.
You will have 60 days to join a new association if:
- your previous association ended your membership
- you choose to leave the association.
You must notify us in writing within 7 days of your membership ending. Please include:
- your firm’s name and licence number
- the name of your former association
- the date that your membership ended.
You must also notify us in writing within 7 days of joining a new association. Please include:
- your firm’s name and licence number
- proof of membership with your new association
- the date your membership became active.
