One-month registration

If you are enrolled in direct debit, you can choose a 1-month registration period for more manageable payments.

You can get a registration quote to compare the cost of a 1-month registration period to 3, 6 or 12 month registrations.

Not enrolled in direct debit yet?

  • Your registration must be current to enrol in direct debit.
  • If your registration is due within 18 days, you will be prompted to make a manual card payment online for the first one-month registration period when you enrol.

Monthly direct debit payments

We will take a payment from your bank account or card every month about 2 weeks before your registration expires—you can’t choose the payment date.

We will email you a reminder a few days before the payment is taken— the email will include the payment date and the amount due.

If your payment fails

If your 1-month direct debit payment fails:

What to do if your registration expires

If payment is not received by the due date, your registration will expire.

When registration expires:

  • vehicles cannot legally be driven—you may be fined for driving an unregistered vehicle
  • you will be charged a late fee when you pay
  • your insurance coverage may be affected.

If your registration has expired, the amount due will vary depending on when you make the payment.

You can use the registration renewal service to make your payment so that:

  • the service will calculate the amount you need to pay, including the late fee and catch-up payment amount (if required)
  • your registration status will be updated immediately.

Some payment methods, like BPAY, take a few business days to reach us and we only update registration status once payment is received.

Late fees and catch-up payments

If you pay after your registration expires, the amount due will vary depending on when you make the payment.

  • If you pay within 7 days of the due date
The amount due will be the registration renewal plus a late payment fee.
  • If you pay more than 7 days after the due date
You will need to make a catch-up payment. The catch-up payment amount includes:
    • your current registration renewal
    • your next registration renewal
    • the late payment fee.

Note: If you pay more than 7 days after the due date, the amount shown on your renewal notice will no longer be the amount you owe due to the catch-up payment. Please do not use BPAY as paying the incorrect amount will result in your payment being rejected.

Removal of registration from direct debit

If we haven’t received your renewal payment 25 days after the due date, your registration will be automatically removed from direct debit.

To renew your registration, you will need to pay for 6 or 12 months registration plus the late payment fee.

Once we have received your renewal payment,  you can choose to add the registration to your direct debit again, to pay monthly for your future renewals.
