Local business powers Gold Coast rail facility to go off-grid
The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program’s (QTMP) Ormeau rail facility is going green and trailblazing construction sustainability in the state thanks to Gold Coast supplier Black Diamond Group.
The local business is delivering an off-grid solar power initiative for the Ormeau QTMP site during its construction with the help of their energy partner Zero Emissions Developments—also locally based.
The green energy solution will power equipment onsite such as computers, refrigerators, lighting, security systems and air conditioning.
The purpose-built system will significantly reduce project-related greenhouse gas emissions, offset noise and air emissions, and will create substantial economic benefits, significantly lowering costs compared to fossil fuel alternatives.
In addition, back-up generators will use biodiesel produced from plants which absorb CO2 to further reduce the project’s carbon footprint.
The partnership will support the Queensland Government’s emissions reduction target of 75 per cent by 2035.
The Ormeau rail facility is currently under construction and once complete will be used for train maintenance and stabling.
The project is part of the QTMO, which will support 1300 jobs throughout its lifespan.
