Queensland Police Service welcomes new recruits to the Gold Coast

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) will welcome 38 new recruits who are set to join the Gold Coast Police District by the end of 2024. This is in addition to the 33 new officers already deployed to the Gold Coast this year.

The new QPS recruits represent diverse backgrounds and will join the Gold Coast frontline after completing an intensive eight-month recruit training program that put their physical, driving and firearms skills to the test and exposed them to a series of real-world policing scenarios.

The deployment of the QPS graduates is crucial for southern Queensland’s tourism mecca as it continues to grow, requiring a responsive police presence to support the expanding and evolving population.

More training and development will be on the cards for the recruits over the next year as part of the First Year Constable program.

This latest recruitment drive across the Gold Coast and the state forms part of the Community Safety Plan for Queensland.

Backed by $1.28 billion in additional investment by the Queensland Government, the plan supports the state’s biggest investment in policing in more than 30 years to deliver almost 3000 extra police personnel around Queensland.
