Child Health Service

The Child Health Service aims to engage with and respond to the needs of young children.

Services provided by the Child Health Service in Queensland vary slightly in each hospital and health service but will offer:

• universal child health clinics
• universal key age core contacts through child health clinics
• health surveillance, screening and parenting advice through child health clinics outside of core contact visits
• groups, such as:
  • new parents
  • key age groups, for example a 4-month, 6-month, and 12-month groups
  • Triple P positive parenting program
  • targeted groups for some parents/carers related to Circle of Security
• a drop-in service for parents and carers and a self-weigh facility through many Child Health Centres and clinics
• home visits
• support with an early intervention parenting clinician, such as a social Worker or psychologist, for parents/carers experiencing complex parenting issues.

13 HEALTH

13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) is a confidential phone service that provides health advice to Queenslanders. You can phone and talk to a registered nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the cost of a local call.

13 HEALTH provides qualified health advice—it is not a diagnostic service and should not replace medical consultation. In an emergency, always dial 000 (triple zero).

Registered nurses provide health-related advice over the phone for health information and assessment of symptoms. This includes a comprehensive telephone assessment resulting in a recommendation of a time and place of care. The service also provides immediate, evidence based healthcare information and referral to other health care providers which is targeted to the appropriate level and location of care.
