Tips for community groups
Community groups have important roles right across Queensland. Community groups include bushcare groups, special interest clubs, cultural groups, craft and artistic groups and rural associations. Volunteers in these groups contribute their skills to help make our communities better.
Attracting and retaining volunteers is a growing challenge for all community organisations.
Check out our top tips and easy to implement ideas to make your organisation’s communication accessible.
- Accessibly promote your group or activity on social media—you’ll reach more people. For example—adding an image description will help more people understand the information you are trying to share.
- Ensure your website is accessible so everyone can learn more about your club, events and activities.
- Create alternative formats of documents you are working on so more people can read and contribute.
- Ask volunteers what they need to fully participate in your group or association. Be flexible about what volunteers need to do.
- Offer staff and volunteers training on accessible communication
