Statement of attainment to be issued On successful completion of this course, a Statement of Attainment will be awarded in:

  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy

Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation and oxygen therapy in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

It is suitable for anyone who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation or oxygen therapy in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

Course content

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Perform resuscitation procedures
  • Deliver oxygen therapy
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Review the incident.

Private and corporate training

This course can be delivered privately, allowing you and your staff or community group to undertake first aid training at your own workplace or venue. Request a quote for a booking or email firstaidtraining@ambulance.qld.gov.au.

Pre-requisite Unit

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Physical ability

Students must perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Course duration

This course generally runs for 9 hours inclusive of a 30-minute lunch break. Sometimes we may run over time in order to meet the needs of the students such as:

  • participant numbers
  • prior skills and knowledge
  • industry experience
  • language, literacy and numeracy skills.

If we believe the course will run over time, the trainer and assessor will let you know as soon as possible.

Recommended renewal period

In accordance with the Code of Practice – First aid in the workplace, refresher training in CPR (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) should be carried out annually (every 12 months) and first aid (HLTAID011) should be renewed every three years.
