On successful completion of this course, a Statement of Attainment will be awarded in:
- HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
- HLTAID011 Provide first aid
- HLTAID012 Provide first aid in an education and care setting
Description
This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
This unit is suitable for workers within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators who work with school age children in outside school hours and vacation programs.
Course content
- Respond to an emergency situation
- Apply appropriate first aid procedures
- Communicate details of the incident
- Evaluate the incident and own performance
- Asthma Management (Ventolin Inhaler) and Anaphylaxis Management (Adrenaline Epi-Pen/Anapen).
Private and corporate training
This course is delivered privately, allowing you and your staff or community group to undertake first aid training at your own workplace or venue. Request a quote for a booking or email firstaidtraining@ambulance.qld.gov.au.
Student requirements
No prior learning is required.
Physical ability
Students must perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Requirements for people under the age of 18
If you are under the age of 18 you must:
- obtain the permission of a parent or guardian to attend
- have your parent or guardian complete the Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Student Enrolment Form.
Additionally, if you are under the age of 16 you must have an adult accompany you to the course (they can be a paid course participant or a chaperone).

Recommended renewal period
In accordance with the Code of Practice – First aid in the workplace, training in CPR (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) should be carried out annually (every 12 months).
