On successful completion of this course, a Statement of Attainment will be awarded in:
- HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support
- HLTAID011 Provide first aid
- HLTAID013 Provide first aid in a remote or isolated site
Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in a remote or isolated site over an extended period of time until medical assistance is provided, or evacuation occurs.
This unit applies to any site where medical assistance is likely to be delayed.
First aid is to be provided in line with guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.
Course content
- Prepare equipment for first aid response in a remote or isolated site
- Assess the situation
- Respond to an emergency situation
- Perform CPR procedures
- Apply appropriate first aid procedures
- Communicate details of the incident
- Coordinate evacuation and first aid activities until assistance arrives
- Review the incident
- Asthma Management (Ventolin Inhaler) and Anaphylaxis Management (Adrenaline Epi-Pen).
Private and corporate training
This course can be delivered privately, allowing you and your staff or community group to undertake first aid training at your own workplace or venue. Request a quote for a booking or email firstaidtraining@ambulance.qld.gov.au.
Course duration
Sometimes we may run over time in order to meet the needs of the students such as:
- participant numbers
- prior skills and knowledge
- industry experience
- language, literacy and numeracy skills.
If we believe the course will run over time, the trainer and assessor will let you know as soon as possible.
Student requirements
No prior learning is required.
Physical ability
Students must perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor.

Requirements for people under the age of 18
If you are under the age of 18 you must:
- obtain the permission of a parent or guardian to attend
- have your parent or guardian complete the Parent/Guardian Consent Form and Student Enrolment Form.
Additionally, if you are under the age of 16 you must have an adult accompany you to the course (they can be a paid course participant or a chaperone).

Recommended renewal period
In accordance with the Code of Practice – First aid in the workplace (Opens in new window) , training in CPR (HLTAID009/HLTAID015) should be carried out annually (every 12 months).
