Home modifications in your community
If you or someone that lives with you has trouble doing things at home due to a medical condition, injury or disability, one of our occupational therapists (OT) can talk to you about how we can change or fix your home so it’s easier to live in.
The OT will ask you about your medical history and need some information from your doctor to make sure that any changes to your home meet your needs.
What you may have trouble with
- There isn’t a path to the home and your wheelie walker gets stuck in the ground.
- The steps into your home are too high and there are no rails to hold onto.
- It’s difficult to step into the bath or get into the shower.
- The shower needs to have a seat.
- The oven is too low.
- Taps and door knobs are hard to hold and turn.
- You need hand rails to help get on and off the toilet.
- You can’t get up the steps to your house with your wheelchair or walker.
- You have trouble washing and drying your clothes.
How we can make it easier
We can make it easier for you at home with the assistance of one of our occupational therapists by:
- installing grab rails and a seat in the shower
- making steps easier to climb with a hand rail
- installing grab rails in your toilet
- putting in a path to your home
- installing a ramp to your home
- installing lever taps which are easier to turn.
