Moving temporarily
You and your household members may be asked to move to another house so we can make repairs or complete upgrades to the house you’re living in.
Housing options
For us to make repairs or complete upgrades to the house you’re living in, you will have the option of moving to one of these types of housing:
Temporary housing
This type of housing is made available for moving you and your household temporarily so we can complete work.
Note: You can't stay in temporary housing permanently and you must move back to your house when the work is completed.
Council-provided housing
Your local Council may offer you another house to move to. You can choose to stay in this house permanently or move back to your house when the work is completed.
Transportable homes
Transportable homes are built in another location and then delivered to a community by us.
If transportable homes are available in your community, you may have the option to live in one temporarily.
Note: You can't stay in a transportable home permanently—you must move back to your house when the work is completed.
Family and friends
We will not ask you to stay with family or friends. However, you can do this if you prefer.
When work is completed, you can then move back into your house.
Helping you move
If we require you to move, we’ll help you by covering all reasonable moving costs you may have.
This may include:
- removalist costs
- reconnection of electricity, gas, telephone
- cleaning
- rubbish removal.
Looking after the house
When you move, you will sign a new Tenancy Agreement for that house.
The Tenancy Agreement requires you to look after the house and not break any of the rules in the Tenancy Agreement.
Some of these rules include:
- looking after the house and making sure the house isn’t damaged on purpose
- not doing anything illegal in the house
- respecting your neighbours by not disturbing them.
We will give you breach notices if you break the rules in the Tenancy Agreement.
Paying rent
When you move, you must pay rent for the house that you move to.
We will give you breach notices if the rent isn’t paid on time and your account is in arrears. Please see the Rent arrears for more information.
20% rent discount
If you were previously eligible for a 20% rent discount and you are required to move temporarily, your rent will remain the same.
When the repairs or upgrades are completed and you move back to your house, you may no longer be eligible for the 20% rent discount and your rent may increase.
When you need to move
We will work with you to plan when you need to move. This will depend on when another house becomes available.
