Queenslanders warned to avoid online household goods and furniture retailer

  • The marketplace regulator is warning consumers to avoid a furniture and household goods retailer that has left numerous Queensland consumers in the lurch.
  • A public warning has been issued about Shanshan Han and their company T&R International Pty Ltd, trading as both T&R Sports and Sports Leisure.

The Fair Trading Commissioner is warning consumers to avoid dealing with Shanshan Han and their company T&R International Pty Ltd, after a number of Queenslanders claim they’ve been ripped off by the online retailer.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is currently investigating over 50 complaints from Queensland consumers who purchased a total of over $52,600 worth of furniture and household goods from T&R International that was never supplied, supplied late or did not meet the advertised quality standards.

A number of consumers reported goods being delivered damaged or claimed they were unable to assemble the products because the supplied parts didn’t fit or were misaligned.

When consumers have returned damaged items to have them repaired under warranty, the items have not been repaired properly and have needed to be returned multiple times.

In instances when goods were not delivered by the due date, T&R International provided a range of excuses for the delays and promised new delivery dates which did not eventuate.

Some consumers have been denied refunds, while others who requested refunds after T&R International failed to supply the goods they ordered were told they would be charged a fee for cancelling their orders.

The company operates under the business names ‘T&R Sports’ and ‘Sports Leisure’. It mainly operates online through the websites www.trsports.com.au and www.sportsleisure.com.au

Both businesses also have a Queensland storefront located at 55 Gardens Drive, Willawong, where customers can allegedly collect purchases.

T&R International Pty Ltd, ACN 141 443 898, operates under business number ABN 59 141 443 898. The company was registered in January 2010 and its registration is still current.

Queensland consumers who are not satisfied with their dealings with T&R International should lodge a complaint with the OFT online or call 13 QGOV (13 74 68).

Quotes attributable to Victoria Thomson, Commissioner for Fair Trading

“We’re looking into a number of complaints from Queensland consumers about T&R International, which trades as T&R Sports and Sports Leisure, for failing to supply products as promised.

“Some consumers claim they’ve never received the products they ordered, while others report the goods have been delivered late or damaged.

“We are particularly concerned about claims that consumers are being denied refunds to which they’re entitled under Australian Consumer Law.

“Over 50 Queenslanders report being out of pocket by about $52,600 in total and we have serious concerns T&R International will continue to operate and take money from Queenslanders via its online stores.

“We don’t want any more Queenslanders to risk losing their money and strongly encourage consumers to avoid this trader while we finalise our investigation and consider any potential legal action.

“We are also working with our interstate counterparts in relation to similar complaints in their jurisdictions.”
