Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant
The Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant is a rolling program that is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government under Category C & D of the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
The grant assists not-for-profit sport, active recreation and racing organisations with the clean-up, repair or replacement of equipment or facilities directly damaged by an eligible disaster event and to re-establish activities.

*Eligible approved organisations may be able to retrospectively claim eligible recovery costs incurred from 8 March 2025 following discussions with the department.
Funding
Eligible organisations can apply for up to a maximum of $1 million (GST exclusive) for each eligible project site subject to funding availability. This may include:
- assessing assets or facilities only where event damage or impact is found
- repairing / restoring damaged sport and active recreation infrastructure damaged by an eligible extraordinary event that directly relates to the re-establishment of sport and recreational facilities (may include the use of more resilient finishes, building techniques and materials where the application demonstrates a value for money outcome).
- rebuilding/replacing infrastructure and/or assets when it has been deemed irreparable or cost prohibitive (by a suitably qualified independent consultant).
Eligible costs must be directly related to the delivery of the approved project and must not have commenced prior to the date of the declared extraordinary disaster event during which the asset or facilities were damaged, namely 8 March 2025.
The Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant is in addition to other funding available for these purposes, such as:
- insurance
- Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants.
- Other funding programs like the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
Who can apply
To be eligible for funding, eligible organisations must be located in a Local Government Area (LGA) activated by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority listed as Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants “Not-for-profit orgs” on the Queensland Government’s Disaster Management website and meet eligibility criteria detailed within the Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant Guidelines.
How to apply
Applications should be made through the online grants system.
Step 1: Log in or create an Enquire applicant portal account
Step 2: Complete the online application
- Read the program guidelines.
- Enter the required organisation information into Enquire.
- Complete the application.
If at any point you don’t have the required documentation to support the application click ‘Save’ at any time and return to the application later by logging back into your account.
Step 3: Submit the application
- Only submit the application once it is fully complete. Applications at a status of ‘submitted’ cannot be retrieved or edited by the applicant.
- All applications must be received within the timeframes outlined in section 3 of the program guidelines.
Before applying
- Organisations are encouraged to seek financial assistance from the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA).
- When applying for the Recovery Grant, organisations will be required to demonstrate they have not been able to obtain insurance coverage for the damaged infrastructure.
- Where insurance has been obtained, the organisation must have claimed financial support from their insurer.
