Physical Recreation

The Physical Recreation section of the Bridge Award encourages you to participate in physical activity and improve your physical performance. You can choose individual or team activities.
Examples of activities
- Ball sports and team sports: basketball, football, hockey, netball, rugby, volleyball, water polo
- Movement and dance: aerobics, circus sports, dancing, gymnastics, martial arts, yoga
- Outdoors and adventure: fishing, orienteering, scuba diving, surfing, skiing
- Racquet games: badminton, squash, tennis
- Other: athletics, archery, bowling, cycling, equestrian, skateboarding, swimming, walking

Requirements
- You don’t need to be part of a club—but you will need an adult with skills and experience in your chosen activity to help you and be your Assessor.
- You can count an activity you do during school but you need to prove you are doing most of the activity in your own time.
- You can do the same activity through Level 1 and Level 2—you just need to show you’re improving and building your skills at each level.
- For Level 2 you should keep a logbook or scrapbook of the sessions attended (to a minimum of 6 hours).
Time commitment
Level 1
- Learn and practice a physical activity for at least 6 hours over a minimum of 2 weeks.
- Sessions should be between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
Level 2
- Participate in structured or organised physical activity for at least 12 hours over a minimum of 4 weeks.
