Boost to community safety on land and water
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has committed additional police officer positions across the Mackay-Issac-Whitsunday region with a focus on preventing, disrupting, and investigating crime.
A total of 20 extra police officers will join the ranks across the Mackay, Mackay Northern Beaches, Bowen, Moranbah, Sarina, and Proserpine stations, including the Mackay Tactical Crime Squad, Child Protection Investigation Unit and Highway Patrol.
These extra police officers will be supported by 17 new high visibility police vehicles.
This policing uplift—thanks to record Queensland Government funding —demonstrates a commitment to community safety and reduction of crime in the local community.
The region was also provided with a new 7.5m marine rescue vehicle to help local volunteer rescue services keep people safe on the water.
Funded by the government’s $22.3 million marine rescue replacement program, it has already responded to several marine search and rescue operations.
