Reduced traffic and improved connections for Mackay
Queensland Government investment in the Mackay Ring Road and other new connecting roads is delivering better access, developing network efficiency, increasing capacity, improving safety, and easing congestion traffic in the city.
As a continuation of the Mackay Ring Road, which was completed in 2020, the connection to Bald Hill Road is under construction and due for completion in early 2025.
The total investment of $497.3 million includes $99.4 million provided by the Queensland Government and $397.9 million from the Australian Government.
The connection, from the Bruce Highway at Glenella in the north-west of Mackay City, includes a bridge over the Port Rail line, an intersection upgrade for the Bruce Highway/Bald Hill Road, duplication of the Bruce Highway between Mackay Ring Road and Mackay Northern Access, and duplication of Bruce Highway overpasses.
The road projects will support the future Mackay Port Access which is currently undergoing planning, scoping, and business case preparations.
