Better healthcare closer to home at Bribie Island Satellite Hospital

The Bribie Island Satellite Hospital—the seventh satellite hospital to open in South East Queensland—opened on 17 July.
Queensland Government

The Bribie Island Satellite Hospital opened on 17 July, joining six of the same health facilities across South East Queensland.

The facility provides urgent care for non-life threatening illnesses and injuries through its Minor Injury and Illness Clinic from 8am to 10pm, as well as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health hub, kidney dialysis services, a day medical treatment unit and outpatient mental health service.

A second stage of the Satellite Hospital will open in early 2025, delivering cancer care services where patients can access chemotherapy, oral health services and a Healthy Aging Assessment and Rehabilitation Team to provide rehabilitation and care for the senior community.

Across South East Queensland, the Satellite Hospital program has been a proven success— not only has there been more than 130,000 presentations across the six operational facilities, but there has also importantly been a 12 per cent drop in less serious, non-emergency presentations at nearby hospitals. This is a key part of our plan to take pressure off busy hospital emergency departments.
