Future proofing Moreton Bay’s roads

Indicative plans for the Buchanan Road upgrade
Moreton Bay Council

Planning work for Morayfield’s Buchanan Road has been given a $7 million boost from the Queensland Government.

The project—being led by the City of Moreton Bay in a 50:50 funding arrangement—aims to ease congestion and accommodate the region’s projected growth. It will focus on upgrades at locations along the road where congestion is the most severe to help reduce commute times for locals now and into the future.

This section of Buchanan Road and William Berry Drive—between Morayfield Road and the Bruce Highway—is a key east-west connection and is considered vital to accommodate the region’s future growth and unlock more investment in housing over the coming years.

This funding has been made available through the $100 million Local Congestion Busting Program, which forms part of the biggest ever Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program, with a total $37.4 billion in transport investment.

In a further step toward future proofing the Moreton Bay road network, the Queensland Government announced it would investigate an alternative proposed route further west for Stage 4 of the Bruce Highway Western Alternative.

This follows extensive feedback from community on two proposed options, which confirmed a strong community interest in a route further west, reducing impact on urban footprint and community severance, as well as minimising property impacts.

Investigations are expected to be completed by early 2025 and locals will be reengaged for further consultation during that time.
