Investing in community safety

The Queensland Government is investing in more frontline services and giving police the tools they need to do their jobs.

Statewide high visibility police patrols under Operation Whiskey Unison are responsible for almost 400 adult and youth arrests in the Capricornia district since they commenced in March last year.

More than 8700 proactive activities have also been conducted by Capricornia police officers and Police Liaison Officers during the first year of the extreme high visibility police operation.

These activities include crime hotspot patrols, business and shopping centre walkthroughs, service station drop-ins, bail compliance checks and community engagements.

Patrols under Operation Whiskey Unison are in addition to coordinated day-to-day police operations and patrols conducted by frontline police.

Rockhampton residents recently had the opportunity to engage with high-visibility policing and access crime prevention resources at community workshops which were rolled out as part of a ‘Safer Together Rockhampton’ community safety pilot.

On the marine rescue front, a second contingency rescue vessel will be delivered for Central Queensland soon.

Under the Queensland Government’s $22.3 million vessel replacement program, the new 7.5m rigid monohulled rescue vessel will be berthed at Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association QF19 Rockhampton and will boost local marine rescue capability.
