Anchors away on Urangan Harbour master plan
A new master plan for Urangan Harbour has a green light to support a sustainable maritime industry and release its economic potential.
The master plan will aim to attract new investment in residential and commercial land uses and capitalise on the appeal of the region as a tourist destination.
The Queensland Government will collaborate with community, business, industry and the Fraser Coast Regional Council to develop the master plan.
Already a valuable asset and gateway to the Great Sandy Marine Park and K’gari World Heritage Area, the harbour supports community groups, volunteer marine rescue, government services, hospitality and tourism operators and fishing fleets.
The master planning process is set to formally commence in mid-2024. Public consultation is expected to begin in early 2025 with a final master plan anticipated by late 2025.
