Record breaking health infrastructure investment for Fraser Coast
Official early works construction has started on the new $1.2 billion Bundaberg Hospital.
The landmark project will provide the region with a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital with more than 400 beds, including 320 overnight beds, expanded emergency department, additional operating theatres and a wider range of outpatient and diagnostic services.
These additional beds and services will meet the needs of the rapidly growing community and create around 2887 local jobs during construction.
The Queensland Government will also deliver a new 24-bed modular general medical ward to Hervey Bay Hospital. It will connect to the main building’s surgical ward and improve patient flow.
Construction of the modular ward is expected to be completed by the end of 2024 and will complement the ongoing Hervey Bay Hospital expansion project, with both projects adding delivering 59 new beds.
These announcements were joined by the opening of the 22-bed mental health ward at Hervey Bay Hospital and are part of the Queensland Government’s $14 billion Health Big Build.
Delivering new and expanded hospitals helps ensure Queenslanders have access to world-class healthcare, no matter where they live.
