Manage training contracts (for SRTOs)
Cancelling training contracts
As the training contract is a formal agreement, it can only be cancelled in certain circumstances.
Contact us, at Apprenticeships Info if:
- you believe it is likely a training contract may be cancelled
- you know that a training contract has been cancelled without following the required process.
Learn more about:
- cancelling training contracts
- support for cancelled apprentices and trainees, including financial help to continue training.
Changing training contracts
When changes are made to a training contract, the training plan may need to change.
If that happens and we approve the changes, you must negotiate an updated training plan and make sure everyone:
- agrees to the changes
- and
- signs the changed training plan within 14 days after the change is agreed to.

Changing and superseded qualifications
You, the employer and the apprentice or trainee can agree to change the qualification of the apprenticeship or traineeship (e.g. change qualification to one more suited to the workplace or change the qualification level).
To make this change, use Form ATF-035 and send it to the Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider for the training contract.
If the apprentice's or trainee's qualification is superseded, you must notify the AASN provider or us, so we can update the training contract. Use Form ATF-028 and send it to the AASN provider.
Provide the employer and apprentice or trainee with an updated training plan within 14 days of making the change.

Changing employers (transfer of training contract)
A training contract may be transferred from one employer to another. For all transfers, you must negotiate a training plan with the apprentice or trainee and the new employer within 28 days of the transfer.

Changing training organisations
The apprentice or trainee and employer may decide to switch either from:
- your organisation to another organisation
- another organisation to your organisation.

Extending training contracts
If the apprentice or trainee is unlikely to complete their training before the end date ('nominal completion date') of the training contract, you can jointly apply to extend the training contract.
The extension must be applied for before the nominal completion date. Follow these steps:
- Discuss the extension with the apprentice or trainee and the employer to work out how much time is needed.
- Decide on a new completion date.
- Complete Form ATF-014. Ensure all parties (you, the apprentice or trainee, employer and parent/guardian if required) sign the form.
- Give the form to the AASN provider, or us.
- Negotiate changes to the training plan with the parties, making sure you provide a signed copy to the apprentice or trainee and employer.
