Garage Sale Trail

The Queensland Government is providing $300,000 over four years to support the Garage Sale Trail.

The Garage Sale trail helps to support a reduction in household waste by reusing clothing and household items, saving them from landfill.

Over three million kilograms of household items were given a second life in 2022 by more than 300,000 Australian’s who shopped or sold at 15,000 garage sales across the country.

Garage Sale Trail took place in October and November in 2023 with a series of free online masterclasses and two big weekends of garage sales.

The 2023 Queensland campaign saw 79,000 Queenslanders shopping or selling second hand, with over 890 tonnes of household items reused of which 39% would otherwise have gone to landfill. This generated more than $690,000 for the local economy and an average of 446 kilograms of items were sold at each garage sale.

To host a sale or shop the trail in 2024 visit the Garage Sale Trail website.

Extending the life of our clothing and household items by reusing and repurposing them is a simple action we can all take to keep valuable materials in circulation and prevent them going to landfill.
