About this program

The Allied Health Graduate Program in Mental Health (AHGP) is a 2-year work-based program for eligible allied health graduates. This program is for occupational therapists, psychologists and social workers seeking to develop and apply their skills in mental health.

The AHGP offers you:

  • a smooth transition to professional practice in mental health, with access to workplace learning while supporting clinical and professional skills development
  • the opportunity to rotate and gain experience in a range of different clinical areas and specialised mental health teams and settings within West Moreton Health over a 2-year period
  • support as you transition from study to professional practice. You'll learn through a mix of classroom and work-based experiences with other graduates, including:
    • tutorials and practical learning sessions
    • interdisciplinary training days
    • discipline-specific supervision
    • journal clubs.

Who we are looking for

Graduates in the following disciplines are eligible for the AHGP:

  • occupational therapy
  • psychology
  • social work.

Applicants should be committed to working in West Moreton Health during the 2-year program, while undertaking a variety of allocated mental health rotations.

We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A position in the program is reserved for a candidate who identifies as indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.

Program eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • have a university undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a discipline listed above
  • have or will have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher before commencing the program in February 2027
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen
  • are an Australian permanent resident
  • have a visa with unrestricted working rights under Australian immigration law.

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • can provide evidence of your visa type, status and entitlements to work prior to starting employment with us. Right to work must be maintained through employment. For more information on right to work and visa conditions visit the Department of Home Affairs
  • have obtained overseas qualification recognition if you received your degree outside of Australia.

  • Annual salary starting at $79,051
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
