About this program

Join us for a rewarding and exciting start to your career in paramedicine. Our Graduate Paramedic Program (GPP) will help you develop the skills needed to gain independent authority to practice, while working under the supervision and mentorship of experienced paramedics.

The GPP suits graduates with less than 2 years' experience and includes training and mentoring to become a qualified paramedic. The program is full-time over a 12-month period with flexible options available where possible.

Who we are looking for

Graduates in the following disciplines are eligible for the GPP:

  • Paramedicine
  • Health Science (Paramedic).

Applicants should be committed to working in Queensland Ambulance Service during the 12-month program, while working in a variety of locations.

Program eligibility

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • have a university undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the disciplines listed above
  • have or will have completed a bachelor's degree or higher before 30 June 2026
  • have less than 2 years of work experience as a paramedic
  • are a registered paramedic with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency)
  • have a Light Rigid (or higher class) manual driver licence*
  • meet our medical standards for paramedics (PDF, 218KB) before you apply
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen
  • are an Australian permanent resident
  • have a visa with unrestricted working rights under Australian immigration law.

*Important information: You can still apply if you have one of the following licences, but you'll need a Light Rigid licence before you can be offered a position:

  • Queensland C class licence for a manual motor vehicle
  • Equivalent manual licence from another state or country.

If your licence only permits you to drive an automatic vehicle, you won't be able to apply.

Additional information for international students

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • can provide evidence of your visa type, status and entitlements to work prior to starting employment with us. Right to work must be maintained through employment. For more information on right to work and visa conditions visit the Department of Home Affairs.
  • have obtained overseas qualification recognition if your received your degree outside of Australia.

Our recruitment process

You will need to upload your:

  • resume
  • academic transcript
  • professional registrations and qualifications.

Once you've submitted your application and we've confirmed you meet our eligibility criteria, you'll be invited to complete online and in person assessments.

If you are successful, we will ask you to complete a pre-employment check (including traffic history, medical assessment and criminal history check) and commencement paperwork.

You'll complete an initial 6-week full-time induction to get you all ready to start working as a graduate paramedic.
