I wanted an opportunity to be able to apply my knowledge and skills that I'd learnt in public health, in a way that was directly impactful for Queenslanders. Health Infrastructure Queensland grad program provides you with the support and tools you need to kickstart your career in health infrastructure.

I found it on Grad Connection while I was in New Zealand, and it was a pretty easy process. I've been here for six weeks in Australia and I’ve been working at HIQ for five weeks. I've just thought everyone's been really, really nice and really considerate to me just starting.
[Annie]
I am originally from Gladstone in Central Queensland. Which is really exciting to me because I was able to work on projects that are back at home, but live in Brisbane. Which is a really, yeah, really surreal. I personally loved the idea of this grad program because it was a smaller cohort. So, it was a bit of more of an immersive experience, having the other grads there as a bit of a guidance and help. They're in the same shoes as us, which has been really good.
[Rani]
I joined HIQ because I wanted to learn new skills in planning and delivering health infrastructure and also, be a part of a much broader opportunity to help improve the health and wellbeing of patients and also, being able to improve health care accessibility. Everyone is so nice, and I'm so lucky to be able to bounce off people that are so knowledgeable within the field.
[Daniel]
I joined HIQ because I liked the whole broad scale of health infrastructure delivery and the opportunity to contribute to that on so many different levels. To work alongside the industry professionals throughout all different aspects of our rotations, I think that'll be very valuable for my future career.
[Will]
Before this I was a disability support worker. I loved helping out the community and seeing this role come up, it really motivated me, and I've been fortunate enough the past couple of weeks to go out to Ipswich and attend user group meetings. Talking to practitioners, nurse managers about how we can assist them with furniture, fixtures and equipment for the new hospital.
[Alana]
The current rotation that I’m working in is infrastructure planning and delivery. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity last week to fly to Cooktown with the rest of my team and do a site visit and engage with the staff members there to find out the needs of the hospital, outside of what's just written on paper. It was a really eye-opening experience to learn about the community. It's a great opportunity coming out of uni to see what you're good at and meeting new people to build those connections so early on.
[Euan]
What excites me about being a part of HIQ is engaging with industry professionals on a day-to-day basis and you're learning off their experience and what they currently are doing within the industry and you know, you've got the opportunity to go in and collaborate with a variety of different people from different backgrounds. I think gaining experience and knowledge from all of them has been really enjoyable and really important for our development.
[Hassan]
I think for myself as well, in general, just seeing how the health care system is run and how we actually contribute in improving it. Especially expansion projects with a population that’s aging and how we cater for it by developing things like a new emergency department or improving access to rural health care and actually learning through everyone and how that approach actually goes about, is I think, probably the most interesting thing.
[Sophia]
Having this being my first formal full-time job that I've had, it's been awesome to be able to settle in and develop sort of a corporate persona almost, alongside other graduates who are also doing it for the first time. Everyone's been really welcoming and the sort of culture that we have here, it's been really nice so far. By the end of the program, I’m hoping to have developed some professional skills that I wasn't able to really practice when I was at uni.
[Brandon]
I'm hoping by the end of the program I’ve become a jack of all trades per se, thanks to these experts that we have in each rotation. Everyone has been so welcoming, so warm and the fact that I get to experience the forefront of these mega projects is very, very intriguing and very, very encouraging.
