The Department of Education is the leading employer of teachers in Queensland and is recruiting teachers for Queensland state schools in 2025.
We employ more than 55,000 teachers in a range of teaching and specialist roles—State Delivered Kindergarten, primary, secondary and special education across 1,264 state schools in Queensland.

Who we are looking for
Teachers are responsible for developing our future leaders, so naturally, we want to employ people who demonstrate high professional standards, knowledge, and relevant experience.
Program eligibility
You are eligible to apply if you:
- have completed of a relevant qualification for the teaching positions you're applying for, which might be a learning phase or curriculum area and year level specific (for example, senior chemistry)
- have registered with the Queensland College of Teachers or evidence of application, or eligibility for registration
- are an Australian or New Zealand citizen
- are an Australian permanent resident
- have a visa with unrestricted working rights under Australian immigration law.
Additional information for international students
You are eligible to apply if you:
- can provide evidence of your visa type, status and entitlements to work prior to starting employment with us. Right to work must be maintained through employment. For more information on right to work and visa conditions visit the Department of Home Affairs.
- have obtained overseas qualification recognition if your received your degree outside of Australia.

- Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history).
- Attach other mandatory documents as listed in the attachment checklist.
- Preservice teachers are to include completed practicum reports, mentor/referee statements, unofficial academic transcript for current course of study.
Look locally for your best fit.
It's possible that a principal or recruitment team may request further information or evidence to determine your suitability to teach with their school. This may include:
- academic transcripts
- copies of your final Professional experience report, showing either Graduate level or Exceeding Graduate level if a graduate applicant
- copies of all professional experience reports
- resumes or Curriculum Vitae
- most current referee statement or contact details
- evidence of lesson planning or work samples.
